Could you or did you?

Are you waiting for inspiration to finally learn electronics?

Well, wait no longer.

I read this quote a while back, but I forgot who wrote it:

"I don't believe in inspiration. Inspiration is for amateurs. The rest of us just sit down and do the work."

Also, in my old gym there was a similar quote by Michael Jordan:

"I've always believed that if you put in the work, the results will follow"

Are you putting in the work to learn electronics?

By "putting in the work" I mean sitting down and building circuits, not just reading about them.

It's nice to read about a project or circuit, understand the explanations, and think "I could do that".

However, sitting down and actually doing the project, so that you later can say "I did that" - that's what it takes to learn electronics!

Start with small and simple projects. Then progress from there.

PS: If you're new to electronics - or trying to get back into it - here are two ways I can help you learn electronics:

  1. Ohmify is all about building electronics and putting in the work. If you're interested in electronics and want to learn skills like soldering, circuit design, Arduino, circuit board design +++, then this is for you.
  2. Getting Started With Electronics is a short and beginner-friendly eBook I wrote to help people get started. It contains clear and simple instructions to get started building electronics. Perfect for complete beginners.

Without this, you won't learn electronics

One thing I'd like to learn (or to become better at) is: The practice of silencing my thoughts for a short period. Also called meditation. What does that have to do with electronics? It reduces stress and makes me more focused on the task at hand. So I can build more circuits, faster . At least in theory. The problem is that I don't practice it. So naturally, I don't get the benefit of it. I recently asked my former meditation teacher for advice. He asked me back: "What's holding you back?" "I don't have enough time," I started typing (this was on Facebook Messenger). Then I deleted it because I realized that I could do it in as little as 5 minutes per day. I tried again: "I don't know what to do." But I had to delete this too because I had all the notes from the class that showed me exactly what to do. Then I tried: "I guess I don't have the motivation?" But again, I realized t...

When the device is switched off an arc can form across the relay contacts as they open. This leads to premature relay failure if measures are not taken to suppress the spark.   more...       ...
