I was sitting in the lecture hall, and I could see my newly acquired friend at my side nodding.
He had no idea what I was going through.
It was my first class in electronics at the university, and I didn't understand one bit of what the professor was talking about.
My new friend seemed to understand everything.
Did I choose the wrong career???
I loved electronics, but I didn't understand anything.
And this was our first class!
Oh no...
Today I can say for sure that I did NOT choose the wrong career!
I absolutely love electronics and the possibilities this skill gives anyone who acquires it.
And anyone can acquire it.
A lot of the classes in electronics back then were about "n-doped material" and whatnot. And we did calculations on circuits I did not know the purpose of.
So to learn how to use a transistor and other components, I had to experiment on my own.
Eventually, I also learned. And I was always surprised by how simple things were when I finally "got it". Why couldn't the professors have told me this from the start?
My friend loved theoretical physics, and he went on to work as a researcher at the university.
I loved the practical use of electronics, and I went on to a career in developing electronics for all sorts of new and exciting products.
And then I created Ohmify for us who like to build things.
If you're like me, whose goal is to learn electronics to build things, then don't let theoretical and formula-based lessons get you down. Because it is possible to learn electronics in a simple and practical way.
